Visual Information Specialist (Medical)

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Utilizes a variety of equipment and software applications required for medial production, photography, and videography. Ensures appropriate maintenance and upkeep of equipment, tools, and space utilized in performing duties. Serves as a consultant to medical center employees requesting media services and determines appropriate form and content, based on vague ideas or instructions from the customer. Coordinates layout, design and execution of printed material for reproduction on station in Medical Media, the Medical Center Print Shop, as well as off station through the Government Printing Office or external vendor. Responsible for overseeing the Facility's Signage program in collaboration with other services. Provides support for the Video OnDemand System/CCTV in support of patient and staff education which includes technical support, maintenance and uploading content. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provision of the Privacy act of 1974, HIPAA, VHA Records Control Schedule 10-1, and other applicable laws and regulations. Performs general staff functions by serving on or chairing Medical Center committees or Process Action Teams. Assists in the development of and maintains policy and procedures for Media Resources. Designs, produces, edits, and disseminates a variety of graphic design applications, including web design, motion graphics, information graphics, Veteran education and information materials, desktop publications, multimedia displays and facility signage. Provides audiovisual support for presenters, Education Service employees, Medical Center trainers, and external trainers. Serves as backup to Photographer, provides photography and videography services to support Medical Center needs. Photographs and or videotapes patients in the studio or at the point of care. Creates videography to support medical center training and education. Ensures that appropriate consent forms are signed prior to making any photographic or video graphic images. Work Schedule:

Undergraduate and Graduate Education:
Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

To qualify based on education for this grade level you must a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Physical Requirements:
Work involves lifting and moving sensitive audiovisual, photographic, mounters, manual and automatic cutters, guillotine trimmers, large rolls of medium, and gator/foam board as well as sensitive electronic equipment . May work from ladders to accomplish tasks. Incumbent is required to stand and bend repeatedly over large work surfaces and use industrial cutters as well as utility blades for scoring, mounting and custom trimming of various mediums. Incumbent is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods and to maintain awkward body position to attain proper angles for photography and/or videography.
