Duties and
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Patient Flow Coordinator, the Bed Control Coordinator (BCC) Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating all bed control activity for scheduled and unscheduled admissions and transfers within and into the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS). He/she will coordinate with multiple VA or Community facilities, Community Outpatient Clinics, and home facilities to provide seamless transition from and to acute care hospitalization. The BCC works with various facility programs to automate and standardize processes that impact patient flow. The BCC is involved in improving patient flow throughout the facility by coordinating handoff from day tour and night tour with Administrative Officer of Day (AOD), Nursing Officer of Day (NOD), Providers and staff. Coordinates physician contact from internal and community referral sources to ensure smooth patient flow. Coordinates with referring VA Medical Centers to provide specialized medical care available at CAVHS. Assesses bed management capacity, availability, acuity skill level of personnel working in collaboration with Nurse Mangers in assigning responsibilities to meet needs that may impede bed management and patient flow. Responsible for real time updates to BMS- Patient Pending Bed Board. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Review and assessment of processes in both inpatient and outpatient areas to determine if current processes are effective. Recommends changes where appropriate. Ensures effective management of routine patient movement using BMS/EDIS for normal transfers and admission. 2. Performs program cost analysis such as diversion time studies, fee costs for patients in community facilities, and performance of cost benefit or economic evaluations of patient flow programs. Collects and interprets data on patient movement into/within the facility to trend patient flow and associated costs. 3. Evaluates processes and makes recommendations for effective organizational changes. Provides for on-site analysis of effectiveness of various sending and receiving areas within facility to ensure they are following current policy. Analyzes current process and policy for consistency and effectiveness. Makes recommendations for policy and process change when appropriate or when policy and process are conflicting or ineffective 4. Makes recommendations for expansion of successful patient flow programs. Works with Flow Coordinator to recognize facility programs that improve patient flow and outcomes. Develops and oversees functions that recognize areas excelling in patient-driven outcomes related to patient flow. 5. Serves as a resource for Bed Management & Solutions (BMS) issues and use. 6. Promotes effective flow of patients out of the Emergency Department (ED) to the appropriate bed. Assists with assessment of issues within the ED and works with various teams and leadership to resolve these issues. Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Experience:
Evidence of 3 - 5 years of successful professional nursing practice with evidence of progressive nursing/administrative responsibility. Preferred Certification:

The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
